The Lab: DIY Plastic-Free Popsicle Molds

Aug 23, 2020

A Commune summer conundrum: We really wanted popsicles, but didn’t want to order a plastic set of popsicle molds.

Fortunately, the solution turned out to be simple:

  • Find some appropriately small and tall containers (our stainless steel water cups worked perfectly)

  • Fill with blended concoction of choice (in our case, leftover homemade applesauce and coconut yogurt a bit past its expiration date)

  • Cover tightly with aluminum foil (this bit is also reusable!) and poke a tiny hole for the popsicle stick or whatever seems like it might work (we cut and repurposed some barbecue skewers). This is the magic step that keeps the stick upright...

  • Freeze, then thaw a bit to release the popsicle!

P.S. There's also a loaf-pan method similar to this.
