The Lab: The Grounding Practice We Use to Start Meetings

Sep 26, 2020

Our weekly all-team meeting is an important hour for the company. So to gather 14 video feeds into one intentional space, we start with a simple breathing practice known as sama vritti

In Sanskrit, vritti is the “swirling” or “turning” of the mind and sama means “even.” Sama vritti is a steady inhalation and exhalation of equal duration. We do five total breaths with a five-count inhale and a five-count exhale. This even breathing is quite grounding and balancing.

It’s such a pleasure to see everyone open their eyes at the end and smile—fully present and ready to listen to one another.
